When Elaine was born, her mom quickly noticed how malnourished she was. After visiting the local health center, the doctors recommended providing her with essential vitamins and more food. Her mom began feeding her rice, beans and eggs, but there was no change. Running out of ideas, her mom enrolled her in the local feedONE program where she received the vital nutrients her body needed.
“Now my daughter has gained weight and she is much healthier,” she says. “She loves to sing and play with the other children at school and in the neighborhood.”
We recently sat down with Elaine to ask her how her life has changed:
Who is your best friend and Why?
My best friend is Luisa, my neighbor. She is my same age. We like to talk about games and play with the dog.
What would you like to do when you grow up?
I would like to work in a beauty shop to fix hair and make it beautiful.
Do you get more food to eat at home or here at Arca de Salvacion?
I get more food at the feeding center. My mom sells tortillas, but tells me we have to come here for food.
Since you’ve been eating at Arca de Salvacion, do you feel different than you did before?
I do feel different. I am not sick. I play all the time.
Who do you admire?
My older brother because he plays with me.
Thank you to the Miami Valley Church family for your support of Elaine and this special program in Nicaragua. Together, we are able to change the lives of children and give them hope for a brighter future.
